Roby Station from the road bridgeRoby Station now sits on Merseyrail's "City Line" between Broad Green and Huyton. It is also located on what was originally the Liverpool and Manchester Railway which opened in 1830. Like Broad Green and Huyton it was also previously a four track station which was later cut back to two tracks and two platforms when the railway system declined in favour of road transport.

In the view on the right, taken in 1980, plants and trees be seen growing on the left of the picture, were the lifted tracks and platforms 3 and 4 used to be.

Shown also in this photo at platform 1 is a westbound Derby built "Diesel Multiple Unit" (DMU) train led by unit M56275. These bogie units were introduced about 1959 to replace steam hauled local trains. They were subsequently replaced theselves by even worse 4 wheel units.
