Thomas Crapper 1836-1910Advert for Thomas Crapper's plumbing businessMany of our Furby ancestors were in the plumbing business. This includes my great great grandfather, John William Furby (born 1812), his younger brother James Samuel Firbey (born 1823) and his grandson John William Furby (born 1874).

While my Furbys were living and working in east London, a more famous plumber was running his business in west London. Thomas Crapper was born in 1836 and lived until 1910. He had a sucessful plumbing career from 1861 until 1904 and his last business address was at Kings Road. When he retired in 1904, he sold his business which continued to operate under the name "Crapper" until 1966.
