Jimmy died in a drowning accident at Mount Lavinia, Colombo, Ceylon. He was a steward on the ship "Orantes". His death entry in the classified section of the Liverpool Echo dated Monday November 10th 1958 was found as follows.
"FURBY October 18, suddenly at Colombo, James Edward dearly loved son of Sarah and the late John William Furby and dear brother of Alice, Sadie, Lily, Peggy, George and Maureen, brother in law of Billy, Ron, May - 33c King Gardens, Liverpool 8."
