Christ Church, Spitalfields dates from 1729 and is located in Commercial Street (between Fournier Street & Fashion Street), east of Liverpool Street Station. It also sits about mid-way between Bethnal Green Road (north) and Whitechapel Road (south). The church is located in the heart of what was once a significant Huguenot weaving community.
The church has been excellently restored. Inside there are impressive ceilings, floors, woodwork and stained glass windows.
At least three of our Furbys were married in this church in the 19th century:-
My great great grandfather John William Furby (b.1812) married Elizabeth Collier there on the 9th of June 1833. Their son, Alfred Henry Furby also married Rebecca Burgess at the church on the 19th of April, 1859. James Samuel Furby, younger brother of John William (b.1812) married Ann Maria Thwaites at Christ Church on the 28th of May 1843.
